About

Caroline Collins is a PhD student in Ethnomusicology. Her research focuses on contemporary Fado performance practices in Portugal, as well as traditions of Fado performance within the United States. She is particularly interested in the intersections between Fado performance and topics such as gender, trauma, and colonialism. Caroline is also active as an arts administrator, and especially enjoys coordinating and hosting benefit concerts, performance workshops, and music education programs.

Before beginning her studies at UChicago, Caroline received a Bachelor of Music degree in music education and vocal performance from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a licensed music teacher and has experience teaching general music at both the K-5 and high school levels.
